As you gear up for another exciting year of online learning, it’s important to have a game plan for staying motivated and organized. Online learning offers flexibility, but it also requires self-discipline and structure to keep everything on track. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with some tips to help you start strong! Plus, we’ll share how parents can stay involved to help students succeed.

1. Get Comfortable with Your Digital Tools

First things first: make friends with your digital tools. At On Track, Google Classroom is your home base, where you’ll find assignments, announcements, and class materials. Spend some time exploring your online learning platform so you know where everything is. Also, get familiar with the Student SIS (Student Information System)—it’s where you can track your grades, attendance, and progress. Keeping these resources at your fingertips will make your life so much easier.

**Parents’ Tip:** Take a few minutes to explore these tools with your child. This way, you’ll be able to help them navigate and stay on top of their assignments and deadlines.

2. Time Management is Key—Use Google Calendar

When it comes to staying organized, Google Calendar is your best friend. Start by plugging in your class schedule, live sessions, and important deadlines. Color-code your calendar to make it visually easy to spot what’s coming up. And don’t forget to schedule your study time! Treat these blocks of time like actual classes—no skipping! This way, you’ll have a clear plan for the day, and you won’t find yourself scrambling to finish weekly assignments at the last minute.

**Parents’ Tip:** Regularly review your child’s calendar with them. Help them set up reminders and check in to ensure they’re following their schedule. Encourage them to treat study time as non-negotiable.

3. Set Up a Productive Study Space

Creating a dedicated study space is crucial for maintaining focus. Find a quiet spot in your home where you can set up your “classroom.” Make sure it’s comfortable but not too cozy—you want to stay alert. Keep all your digital resources within reach, and try to limit distractions as much as possible. This might mean putting your phone on Do Not Disturb or letting family members know when you’re in “class mode.”

**Parents’ Tip:** Help your child choose and set up their study space. Make sure it’s free of distractions and equipped with everything they need. A good environment can make all the difference in their focus and productivity.

4. Break It Down—Weekly Assignments and Study Sessions

Weekly assignments can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if you try to tackle everything at once. Instead, break down your tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. If you’ve got a big project due, divide it into daily goals. Tackling a little bit each day will make the workload seem less daunting, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment as you check off each task.

**Parents’ Tip:** Encourage your child to break tasks into smaller steps and check in with them daily to see their progress. Help them set achievable daily goals and celebrate their accomplishments, no matter how small.

5. Stay Connected During Live Sessions and Open Office Hours

One of the great things about attending live sessions is the opportunity to connect with your teachers and classmates through live sessions. Make it a priority to attend these—they’re not only a great way to stay engaged, but they also give you the chance to ask questions in real time. And don’t forget about open office hours! If you’re struggling with an assignment or just need some clarification, these are the perfect times to get one-on-one help from your teachers.

**Parents’ Tip:** Encourage your child to participate in live sessions and remind them to take advantage of open office hours. You can also reach out to teachers if you notice your child struggling, to get the support they need.

6. Motivation Check—Stay on Track

Finally, staying motivated can be a challenge in a virtual environment. Set small goals for yourself, and celebrate when you achieve them. Maybe it’s completing all your assignments for the week, attending every live session, or even just staying focused during study time. Whatever it is, give yourself credit for your hard work!

**Parents’ Tip:** Keep an open line of communication with your child about their goals and challenges. Celebrate their successes with them, and provide encouragement when motivation wanes. Regular check-ins can help you stay connected and support their journey.

Remember, online learning is what you make of it. With the right tools and strategies, you can stay motivated, organized, and ready to tackle the school year head-on. So as you get settled into the school year , know that you’ve got this and take advantage of the support that is provided!
